how do you draw african americans so well? as a woman of color myself, i find it difficult to get the features right without looking stereotypical. do u use reference photos? any tips u can give would be greatly appreciated.

I definitely understand you. And really, there's no secret other than just practice, practice practice. It also helps to know that all women look different regardless or race, and facial features can greatly vary from person to person. Just keep practicing, and looking to real life for inspiration, and trust me, it will all come together.
